Dietetic Internship Frequently Asked Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Do I have to conduct research?

Yes. Interns are required to complete an original research project. We realize that incoming interns have little, if any, experience in a laboratory. You will be taught appropriate research methods by your major professor.  The benefit to you is that you will gain an additional skill that most other internships don't offer. You may also get to present your research at a professional meeting or publish it in a journal . . . another plus for your resume.

2. Do I have to move to Temple for 7 months?

No, not for 7 months, but you will have to complete at least a few months of clinical rotations in Temple. We offer rotations in Bryan/College Station  as well as in Temple. If an intern requests to have more rotations in Bryan/College Station, every attempt will be made to honor this request.

3. Is funding available for graduate school?

Yes. Over 90% of our graduate students receive some sort of funding. We offer research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and a campus food service assistantship. If you work at least 20 hours per week on an assistantship, you are eligible for the out-of-state tuition waiver and employee health insurance. There are no assistantships during supervised practice.

4. How long is your program?

It varies. Supervised practice is 7 months, from June to December. You then begin graduate studies in the spring semester. Most  graduate students need 18-24 months to complete graduate work. The courses you select and the nature of your research determine how long your graduate degree will take.
